Outdoor Tap Repairs
From Drips To Burst Pipes
Most simple outdoor tap faults stem from worn washers or failed cartridges. For example, a dripping outdoor tap is usually a quick washer or seal replacement, whereas a stiff or stuck tap is often due to limescale buildup or a worn cartridge that needs to be swapped out.
However, frost damage is more involved. A tap that’s burst due to a cold snap usually needs the cracked components replaced and the pipework checked for any hidden splits behind the wall. The proper fix is to repair the damage and then add the insulation and isolation that should have been there in the first place, so it doesn’t happen again next winter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our Outdoor Tap Installation FAQs
Do I need an indoor isolation valve for my outdoor tap?
It’s not a legal requirement, but it’s how the job should be done properly. An indoor isolation valve lets you shut off the water to the outdoor tap before winter, so the external pipework can be drained, and you won’t have a burst pipe when temperatures drop. Anyone fitting an outdoor tap without one is cutting corners.
Can you install hot and cold outdoor taps?
Yes. Hot and cold outdoor supply is more involved than a standard cold tap because it needs an additional pipe run, proper insulation, and indoor isolation on both supplies. It’s a great option for outdoor kitchens, garden bars, dog-washing stations, or outdoor showers, and we install them regularly.
My outdoor tap burst over winter. What do I do?
A burst outdoor tap usually means the pipework behind the wall has also been damaged by ice. We’ll repair the cracked components, check the indoor pipework for splits, and fit proper insulation and isolation so it doesn’t happen again. If it’s actively leaking, isolate the water supply if you can and give us a call.
Can you add a second outdoor tap to my property?
Yes. A second outdoor tap is a common request, particularly when you’ve got one at the back of the house and want one at the front, or vice versa. We’ll plan the pipework route, fit the second tap properly, and add isolation valves so each can be turned off independently if needed.
